On the trail of nature

Striking impressions in the nature park

Entering the Solling-Vogler Nature Park, recognised as a ‘Walkable Germany’ Quality Region, is one of the highlights of the route. Ancient woodlands, lakes, raised bogs and conservation grazers such as the Heck cattle and Exmoor ponies leave a lasting impression. The oak-lined avenue between Silberborn and Schönhagen forms part of the Neuhaus Wildlife Park, where spacious, animal-friendly enclosures invite visitors to take a closer look.

The Porta Westfalica

The route continues across upland moors to Stadtoldendorf and the Cistercian monastery of Amelungsborn, before taking another fairy tale turn: after the Cinderella village of Polle, with its castle of the same name, comes Bodenwerder – once home to Baron Münchhausen and his incredible tales. The Pied Piper town of Hamelin and the Hohenstein Cliffs point the way to the Schillat Cave, Germany’s northernmost dripstone cave. You then come upon the historical town centre of Rinteln via the Paschenburg and Schaumburg Castle. And when the trail ends at the Kaiser Wilhelm Monument in Porta Westfalica, lose yourself in the breathtaking views of the Weser Valley.
