After exploring the Münchhausen town Bodenwerder, the Weserbergland-Weg continues parallel to the Weser towards Hehlen. On this route, the ascent to the Bismarck Tower is strenuous, but the breathtaking view of the Weser Valley makes all efforts forgettable. From the Bismarck Tower, it goes directly downhill again to the Weser; further on, the Weserbergland-Weg leads along old towpaths directly along the river. At Daspe, the Weser is crossed again, passing the Hehlen Water Castle the XW route now goes up to the Ottenstein high plateau. Here you reach the stage destination Lüntorf. The Ottenstein high plateau has its very own charm in every season; in spring, the plateau is covered with beautifully blooming rapeseed fields.

Directions

One of the most famous legendary figures from the Weserbergland lives in Bodenwerder: the legendary Baron von Münchhausen. The spirit of the Baron seems to truly still wander through Bodenwerder on some days. Follow his traces, for example, in the Münchhausen Museum, on a guided tour through the historic old town, or at the Münchhausen play or musical. For relaxation, take a stroll along the Weser promenade. Here, numerous restaurants and cafés invite you to enjoy a cozy break.

Parallel to the Weser, the Weserbergland-Weg then winds from Bodenwerder towards Hehlen. The ascent to the Bismarck Tower on this route is indeed strenuous, but the breathtaking view of the Weser Valley makes you forget all efforts and exertions. From here, it goes back downhill to the Weser. The XW markings of the Weserbergland-Weg now lead you over a truly historic towpath directly along the river. This towpath was laid out many years ago to allow people and draft animals to pull wooden cargo ships upstream.

Across the "Blue Wonder", a bridge between Daspe and Hehlen, you reach the Hehlen Water Castle, one of the largest noble palaces from the Weser Renaissance period. After a short coffee break, it goes uphill to the Ottenstein high plateau in the direction of the stage destination Lüntorf. The Ottenstein high plateau has its special charm in every season. Whether in spring with the scent of blooming rapeseed fields or in autumn, when the mist reverently seems to lie over the Weser Valley.
