Directions
Veckerhagen, a district of Reinhardshagen, is located directly on the Weser River. Colorful half-timbered houses from earlier centuries group here in an almost unique way around the church, creating a picture of enclosed ensembles. Many half-timbered houses are richly decorated and bear inscriptions on the frame wood. One of the landmarks of the village is the historic reaction ferry, which transports guests from one side of the Weser to the other using only the power of the water. A special kind of experience! Also not to be missed in Veckerhagen is a visit to the ironworks, a complex comprising a machine factory, foundry house, rose house, and Veckerhagen mining office.
On your way northward, the Weserbergland-Weg runs along the edge of the Reinhardswald through meadows and pastures. Afterwards, it leads into the Olbe Valley, named after the Olbe River, which flows into the Weser. The Olbe Valley is known for its beautiful forest stock. Lots of rustic greenery, tall royal ferns, and some tall, light old tree stands offer new impressions to enjoy again and again. The stage destination is the Sababurg, known as the legendary Sleeping Beauty castle of the Brothers Grimm. 675-year-old fairy-tale stories can be experienced up close during a visit. Since the Sababurg is currently undergoing extensive renovation, we ask you to check with the Naturpark Reinhardswald Tourist Information beforehand about visit possibilities and nearby accommodation options. The Sababurg is surrounded by a large animal park and an ancient forest.
