Family adventures

100% relaxation, 0% boredom

Family holidays in Niedersachsen are always an excellent idea. After all, the region is every bit as diverse, colourful and full of life as families themselves. Welcome to the child-friendly Kinderferienland!

And it really doesn’t matter whether you are planning just a short trip or an entire holiday – the choice of family travel options is so extensive that you’ll find everything from weekend breaks to full summer holidays, with exciting destinations, fascinating sights, enchanting landscapes and countless wonderful places to discover together. How about swapping a hotel stay for a night in a hayloft? Or sleeping in a pirate’s cabin? Visit native animals in their natural surroundings or embark on a time-travel adventure at one of the research and discovery centres. Here, the fun begins the moment you start planning together.

Award-winning child-friendly holidays

At last – the holidays! For children, a holiday is always the highlight of the year: the daily routine falls away, replaced with long lie-ins, playtime, new discoveries and plenty of family time. And of course, everyone deserves some relaxation. But with the familiar routine out of the window, that’s not always so easy for parents. That’s exactly why Niedersachsen offers something really practical for families: the Kinderferienland quality seal for child-friendly companies.

Where mighty dinosaurs once roamed 140 million years ago, you’ll now find the Münchehagen Dinosaur Park, west of Hanover. Germany’s largest scientific adventure and theme park features over 230 life-sized reconstructions of dinosaurs alongside many other exhibits, making it a true highlight for young and old explorers alike. In addition to travelling back to the age of the dinosaurs, children and adults can unleash their creativity through a variety of hands-on activities.

Anyone curious about how life in Niedersachsen looked long before our time can take an exciting journey back into the world of northern Germany’s very first inhabitants at open-air museums and reconstructed villages. The Schöningen Research Museum, located next to an excavation site where archaeologists are still digging today, is a wonderful place. In its interactive visitor lab,
families can become researchers themselves.
