Bad Karlshafen, the white baroque town founded by Landgrave Carl of Hesse in 1699, is the starting point of the fourth stage of the Weserbergland Trail. The venerable town hall of Bad Karlshafen, the historic harbor basin, the Weser promenade, and the German Huguenot Center invite you to explore before the path winds uphill towards Schönhagen in the Solling. A short detour to the Weser Skywalk with its legendary view over the Weser valley is definitely worthwhile! Across tall beech forests, the path also leads to another highlight, "Lug ins Land," from where you can enjoy the view of the rolling hills of the Weserbergland during a short hiking break. The Weserbergland Trail XW continues through the Hutewald with its aurochs and Exmoor ponies over Nienover and the Solling tower to the day's destination Schönhagen.

The white baroque town of Bad Karlshafen was founded in 1699 by Landgrave Carl of Hesse. Highlights of the town include the historic town hall, the baroque harbor, the German Huguenot Center, and the Weser promenade. Perfect relaxation after a long day of hiking on the Weserbergland Trail is offered by the Weser-Therme. A visit to the boat sauna Jacques Galland is not to be missed here. The boat is securely moored at the Weser dock and offers the opportunity to reflect on the impressions of your hiking trip at around 80°C with gentle waves. After this relaxing stay, you follow natural paths uphill into the Solling ridge. On this path, take a short detour west to the Weser Skywalk, a viewpoint offering a breathtaking view over the Weser valley. Continuing on the Weserbergland Trail, you pass through beech forests to the viewpoint "Lug ins Land."
The next stop is the Hutewald. The oak forest prevailing along the Reiherbach near Nienover, with its typical animals and plants, represents a valuable habitat. Aurochs and Exmoor ponies work here for nature conservation with hooves and teeth. From here, a trip to the medieval house in Nienover is worthwhile. According to archaeological investigations so far, Nienover is the oldest town foundation in the Solling and offers visitors a journey back to the early 13th century. Further north, the path leads to the stage destination Schönhagen.
