Fairy tales and myths


The Pied Piper of Hamelin, Frau Holle, Baron Münchhausen, Till Eulenspiegel, Hexen im Harz Mountains – Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) is the land of fairy tales. Many well-known stories and fables are set in the picturesque timbered towns along the Weser river or in the legendary forests of the Harz mountains. The Brothers Grimm, whose collection of fairy tales are still known and loved by every child today, spent a formative period of their lives as professors in Göttingen. No wonder, therefore, that many Lower Saxon towns feature in their stories. The countryside and places along the Weser river of Hann. Today Hann. Münden to Verden is at the heart of the German Fairy Tale Route.
