Eilenriede in Hannover

The city’s green forest

Europe’s largest city forest is located in Germany’s greenest city, only 2km from the city centre: Eilenriede Forest. Covering 642 hectares, the city’s “green lung” is almost twice the size of New York’s Central Park. With an attractive network of paths, numerous benches for resting and several cafés and restaurants, the city forest is the perfect place for a relaxing stroll, for jogging, cycling and riding. The Eilenriede Forest information posts put “Forest Life at your Fingertips”, providing information about the many species that inhabit the forest. The city forest is an attractive place to visit at any time of year: in the summer the sunny meadows and cool shade under the trees attract sunbathers and walkers alike; in the winter it is a paradise for sledging, offering snowy fun for young and old alike.
