The Lune river is a tributary of the Unterweser, and a small grassland river measuring 43 km in length from its source to where it converges with the Unterweser. Its source is to the south-west of Bremervörde, between Basdahl and Hipstedt. The Lune flows past Beverstedt, Lunestedt and Nesse to Lunesiel to the south of Bremerhaven’s Fischereihafen district.
The river was a major transport artery until the early 17th century, and it can be navigated up to Deelbrügge. The Lune river plain is dotted with meadows and pastures, river bank vegetation and marsh forests. The nature reserve is a safe haven for endangered species, such as the otter and crane.
Just like the neighbouring Geeste river, visitors can experience the great outdoors that cannot be reached by bike or on foot on the Lune river – a dream come true for paddlers, even complete novices!
