The Luhe is a small, heathland river in the countryside. Its journey begins at Bispingen on Lueüneburger Heide and it flows for 58 km until it converges with the Ilmenau river. At the upper reaches of the river, the Luhe twists and turns through an idyllic and unspoiled natural landscape.  At the lower reaches, it is a slightly calmer, solitary meadow stream. The Luhe is perfect for 4 to 6-hour introductory day canoe adventures. At the upper reaches, kayaks are the only vessel permitted on the water until you reach Wetzen.  From here onwards, canoe tours in open canoes are permitted during the day until 6 pm. During Ascension and Pentecost, the Luhe is only accessible from Garstedt. Canoe tours on the Luhe end in the tiny town of Winsen, where you can stroll through the gardens and tour the emblem of the town: the moated castle.
