Paths to well-being

From the stunning scenery of the Harz mountains and the idyllic villages of the lowlands to the endless beaches of the North Sea – novice walkers and ambitious hikers alike will discover some excellent paths in these varied surroundings. There’s a wealth of possibilities, especially for people who consciously want to enhance their sense of well-being. Whether you go on a pilgrimage, immerse yourself in the forest or go hiking in our healthy climate – make the most of what nature in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) has to offer, helping you to stay healthy and boost your immune system.

Whether spiritually or culturally motivated, pilgrimages are all the rage at the moment – even before the German author Hape Kerkeling wrote about a pilgrimage in his best-selling book Ich bin dann mal weg (I’m Off Then). This special form of hiking refreshes the mind, body and soul. A pilgrimage offers a good counterbalance to the hectic stress of everyday life. The idea of ‘bathing in the forest’ came here from Japan, where Shinrin Yoku has been a popular stress-busting method for a long time. Experts there have scientifically proven what most people know from their own experience: spending time in a forest has a relaxing and calming effect. Try it and see!

Hiking in a healthy climate is also said to have a positive effect on the body. People with heart problems, rheumatic disorders or high blood pressure can get active by following the ‘Healthy Climate Hiking Trails’.
