International Handel festival Göttingen - Scene from the opera Tamerlano

Every year around Whitsun, Göttingen is dedicated entirely to the great composer George Frideric Handel and his contemporaries, for this is when lovers of baroque music gather at the International Handel Festival in the university city – and have been since 1920.
While highlights include performances of the great Handel operas, the festival also appeals to a less classical audience with a concept ranging from classical open-air concerts, evening serenades, chamber concerts, recitals, readings and city tours. Concerts and oratorios, ballet performances, the “Handel plays jazz!” series and much more bridge the gap between baroque and contemporary music. Representative open-air events with fireworks or water music, and concert evenings in the enchanting Göttingen surroundings, are also very popular with the audience.
