Discover the Elbe’s natural wonders at Biosphaerium Elbtalaue – explore wildlife, aquariums and stunning views from historic Bleckede Castle [1].
Nestled within the historic walls of Bleckede Castle, the Biosphaerium Elbtalaue offers a fascinating journey through the natural diversity of the Elbe River landscape. Across more than a thousand square metres, visitors are invited to explore interactive exhibits that bring the rhythms of the river to life. From the delicate songs of migratory birds to the dynamic power of wind and water, every display reveals another facet of this remarkable biosphere. The exhibition captures the magic of flight and migration as geese and storks traverse the Elbe wetlands, while a live stork camera provides intimate views of nesting and raising young from spring to summer. Further highlights include the immersive aquarium landscape, which unveils the underwater world of the Elbe, and the impressive beaver enclosure, where one of the region’s most iconic animals can be observed in its natural habitat. A climb up the castle’s medieval tower rewards visitors with panoramic views over the Elbe valley, inspiring further exploration on foot or by bicycle through the surrounding Biosphere Reserve. The Biosphaerium Elbtalaue – part nature discovery centre, part historic monument – combines education, experience and wonder, making it a true gateway to the living landscape of northern Germany.
