19 km long circular hiking route on the Ith-Hils-Weg.

Discover small, cozy villages on this approximately 19 km long circular hiking route, enjoy great views over the Leinbergland, and let your thoughts wander.

A possible starting point of the circular hiking route is the hiking car park Wulfseiche/Alter Teichweg near Duingen. From there, the route initially follows the Ith-Hils-Weg towards Marienhagen. The route along the ridge of the Duinger Berg is a special experience with fantastic views over the Külftal. The best view is from the Leinebergland balcony, an open hiking hut that invites you to linger and picnic. On the steeply falling northeast slope of the Duinger Berg there are some limestone cliffs and limestone quarries, mostly hidden in the forest.

Then it goes downhill towards Rott and continues through the fields via Hoyershausen, the small village of Lütjenholzen to Brunkensen, where there is an opportunity to stop for food and drink. From Brunkensen, a detour to the Räuber-Lippoldshöhle, a freely accessible cave around which many legends revolve, is worthwhile. The best-known legend concerns the robber Lippold, from whom the cave also takes its name.

Return then via Hohenstein on the Ith-Hils-Weg to the starting point of the circular hike.

Additional information

The Panoramaweg is one of six so-called Pottland routes around Duingen. Pottland has traditionally been the region between Alfeld and Springe at the Deister. It was home to the most significant potteries in northern Germany because especially good clay was available near the surface. This allowed numerous potters since the late Middle Ages to produce stoneware – a particularly robust and watertight ceramic. Thus, the most important pottery center of Lower Saxony developed here: the Pottland.

In Duingen, for example, 41 potters worked in 38 workshops in the year 1689.
