On the Great Rundling Route you are on the trail of the old Wends! Visit the half-timbered town of Lüchow, the most beautiful Rundling villages in the Wendland and experience history to touch, for example at the Wendland Rundling Museum!

The Wendland is known for its numerous Rundlinge: villages where the houses are arranged in a circular pattern. On the Great Rundling Route, you experience the charming appeal of these villages. The origin of this village form is still mysterious today. What is certain is that it was the Wends, also called Slavs, who lived in the Rundling villages from the 12th century onwards. Lübeln is one of the best-known Rundling villages. Here, the Rundling Route begins through an agriculturally shaped cultural landscape. At the Wendland Rundling Museum, you experience how people mastered their rural everyday life about 200 years ago. The Great Rundling Route also leads you along many artist studios through the Rundling villages Gühlitz, Jabel, Satemin, Reetze, and finally to Lüchow (Wendland). The half-timbered houses of Lüchow show architectural unity, as the entire town was rebuilt in only two years after a fire in 1811. The 1,000-year-old town history is told by the Amtsturm Museum Lüchow.

Directions

The Great Rundling Route starts at the Wendland Rundling Museum in Lübeln. Passing the Lübeln church, it goes to the next Rundling village Gühlitz, where typical three- and four-post houses from the 18th century can be seen. Via Meuchefitz and Seerau in Drawehn, the path leads through the typical Rundling landscape of the Hanoverian Wendland to Jabel. Here, the entire village is under monument protection and the Rundling Route crosses the Wendland Cross-Route, a long-distance hiking trail from Clenze to Schnackenburg. Satemin is the largest Rundling village in the Wendland, where many gable inscriptions on the houses recall the great fire of 1850. Further towards Lüchow, the mighty Amtsturm can already be seen from afar. The relic of the former count's castle reminds of the "Amt" Lüchow and is today the Amtsturm Museum. After a tour through the Amt garden, the path leads through the town center of the historic half-timbered town. From Lüchow, it goes back through open fields to Lübeln.

An abbreviation is set up on the route. It is marked with a white triangle on a red background. The route length is shortened by about a quarter. The town of Lüchow is thus excluded from the hike.
