DiVa - four letters stand for the history of a region and the highlights of a hiking trail that runs along the Wiehengebirge in the TERRA. vita Nature and Geopark.vita nature and geopark.

Thenosaurs once ruled the area before the Roman governor Varus sealed his fate here much later. Evidence of these stays can be found near Bad Essen-Barkhausen in the form of mighty dinosaur footprints, which you can admire on a steep rock face. Information boards and dinosaur models provide insights into the past geological era.

Bad Essen is definitely worth a longer stay: as a member of the German Half-Timbered Road, it has probably the prettiest market square in the Osnabrücker Land region. A lively retail structure and many places to stop for refreshments with creative and regional cuisine tempt you to stroll and enjoy.
