The former residence of Heinrich Vogeler is a total work of art consisting of house, garden, art and design.

Heinrich Vogeler's complete works at an authentic location: the Barkenhoff offers an extraordinary experience. The works of the painter, graphic artist, designer and architect Heinrich Vogeler (1872-1942) are shown in a multi-layered exhibition in the home and studio of the co-founder of the Worpswede artists' colony.

The permanent exhibition offers objects from the museum's own collection in combination with loans from other museums and collectors. Special exhibitions that build bridges to Vogeler's work and to Worpswede's art and cultural history round off the offer. The exhibition at the Barkenhoff enables the visitor to travel through time, showing the artistic development of Heinrich Vogeler and at the same time making his work visible as a testimony to the great upheavals in the history of the 20th century up to the Second World War. The museum, which was renovated and redesigned in 2004, received additional exhibition space and a spacious new foyer in the former coach houses in the course of the Worpswede Master Plan 2012.
