A repository of knowledge with collections from the region
The Bachmann Museum is the central museum for the district of Rotenburg (Wümme) and the city of Bremervörde. With its collections on geology, archaeology, history, folklore, natural history, and art, the development of the Elbe-Weser Triangle from prehistoric times to the present. These collections, which have grown over more than 110 years, comprise approximately 80,000 objects and form a unique repository of knowledge that comprehensively preserves the region’s diverse history.
Part of the Bremervörde Castle complex and the town’s oldest building
The museum is located in the town’s oldest building, which is the last remaining structure of Bremervörde Castle. Originally used as an administrative building and horse stable, the complex endured for over 400 years and served, among other things, as a town hall, courthouse, and lodging for distinguished guests such as the Russian Tsar Peter the Great.
In the Middle Ages and early modern period, Bremervörde Castle was the administrative seat of the Archbishopric of Bremen and the main residence of the powerful Archbishops of Bremen. Over the centuries, they expanded the moated castle into a large fortified palace, which was repeatedly captured during the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648). At the end of the 17th century, the castle and the town of Bremervörde lost their importance, and beginning in 1682, the new Swedish rulers authorized the demolition of the castle and fortifications. Today, only the historic museum building—a designated landmark—and the remains of the moats in the idyllic museum park serve as reminders of the once-magnificent castle.

Vor dem Eingang des Bachmann-Museums befindet sich ein Bronzerelief einer Darstellung des Schlosses Bremervörde um das Jahr 1653. Das Modell kann ertastet werden. Ein kurzer Text ist sowohl in Profilschrift als auch in Brailleschrift zugänglich. Directions & Parking facilities
- Das Bachmann-Museum liegt zentrumsnah im Erholungsort Bremervörde im Norden des Landkreises Rotenburg (Wümme).
Sie erreichen Bremervörde mit dem PKW:
Aus Bremerhaven folgen Sie der A 27 Richtung Bremen (Abfahrt Beverstedt) und der B 71 über Beverstedt und Basdahl.
Von Hamburg aus folgen Sie der A 26 und B 73 in Richtung Stade oder der A 1 in Richtung Bremen (Abfahrt Bockel) und dann der B 71 über Zeven und Selsingen.
Von Bremen und Hannover erreichen Sie Bremervörde über die A 27 in Richtung Bremerhaven (Abfahrt Ritterhude) und die B 74 (über Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Hambergen, Basdahl und Oerel).
Von Rotenburg (Wümme) folgen Sie der B 71 (über Zeven und Selsingen).
Anreise mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln:
Aus Richtung Cuxhaven und Bremerhaven fährt die Elbe-Weser-Bahn (EVB) nach Bremervörde. Aus Richtung Hamburg nehmen Sie die S-Bahn (S 5) von Hamburg Hbf nach Buxtehude. Dort steigen Sie in die EVB nach Bremervörde um. Nähere Infos zu den Bahnverbindungen erhalten Sie auf www.bahn.de
Ab Bremen oder Stade können Sie von Mai bis Oktober samstags, an jedem ersten Sonntag im Monat und feiertags den historischen Moorexpress nehmen, der gemächlich über die Dörfer fährt. Hierzu muss im Vorfeld ein Ticket gebucht werden. Nähere Infos zu der historischen Kleinbahn erhalten Sie auf www.moorexpress.de
Ab dem Bremervörder Bahnhof sind es ca. 10 Minuten Fußweg zum Bachmann-Museum. Entweder über die Bremer Straße und die Alte Straße bis zur Amtsallee 8. Oder Sie nehmen den idyllischen Fuß- und Radweg, der direkt neben den Schienen beim alten Bahnwärterhäuschen beginnt und bis zum Bachmann-Museum führt (ca. 12 Minuten).
Außerdem gibt es zahlreiche Busverbindungen die nach Bremervörde führen:
- Haltestelle Bahnhof: Linien 640, 800, 811, 812, 817, 846, 847, 848 (danach ca. 10 Minuten Fußweg zum Museum, s. o.)
- Haltestelle Hafen: Linien 800, 814, 815 (danach ca. 6 Minuten Fußweg durch Burgbergpark am Kreishaus vorbei zum Museum)
- Haltestelle Ludwig-Jahn-Straße: Linien 811, 817 (ca. 6 Minuten Fußweg über Ludwig-Jahn-Straße und Alte Straße zur Amtsallee 8)
- Haltestelle Ostebrücke: Linie 818 (9 Minuten Fußweg)
- Haltestelle AOK: Linien 640, 811 (10 Minuten Fußweg)
- Haltestelle Zevener Straße: Linien 800, 818 (10 Minuten Fußweg)
