Collections from the region
Our collections of over 80,000 objects go back to the local historian August Bachmann (1893 - 1983), who had been researching the region since his early youth. Among the highlights of the more than 800 exhibits are the Neolithic wooden wheel from Gnarrenburg-Karlshöfen, which at 4,600 years old is one of the oldest known wooden wheels in Northern Europe, and two fossil whale skeletons from a clay pit near Sittensen that are around 12 million years old.
Our museum is housed in the oldest building in the town, which is also the last remaining structure of Bremervörde Castle. Originally used as an administrative building and stables, the building complex has survived the last 400 years and has served as an official residence, courthouse and hostel for high-ranking guests such as the Russian Tsar Peter the Great.
In the Middle Ages and early modern times, Bremervörde Castle was the administrative seat of the Archbishopric of Bremen and the main residence of the powerful archbishops of Bremen. Over the centuries, they expanded the moated castle into a large fortified castle, which was repeatedly conquered during the Thirty Years' War (1618 - 1648). At the end of the 17th century, the castle and the town of Bremervörde lost their importance and the new Swedish rulers released the castle and fortifications for demolition in 1682. Today, only the listed museum building and the remains of the moats in the idyllic museum park are reminders of the once magnificent castle.
Extensive renovation
Our exhibition is currently closed to visitors due to extensive renovation work. During this time, the idyllic museum park continues to invite visitors to take a stroll through Bremervörde's history and we offer a range of events. After the renovation, our visitors can expect a varied exhibition on the history of the region, from the oldest traces of the earth's history to the lives of people today in the central Elbe-Weser triangle. The museum administration is still available Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 12:00 and Monday to Thursday from 14:00 to 16:00. Up-to-date information can be found on our website.

Das Bachmann-Museum liegt zentrumsnah im Erholungsort Bremervörde im Norden des Landkreises Rotenburg (Wümme).
Sie erreichen Bremervörde mit dem PKW:
Aus Bremerhaven folgen Sie der A 27 Richtung Bremen (Abfahrt Beverstedt) und der B 71 über Beverstedt und Basdahl.
Von Hamburg aus folgen Sie der A 26 und B 73 in Richtung Stade oder der A 1 in Richtung Bremen (Abfahrt Bockel) und dann der B 71 über Zeven und Selsingen.
Von Bremen und Hannover erreichen Sie Bremervörde über die A 27 in Richtung Bremerhaven (Abfahrt Ritterhude) und die B 74 (über Osterholz-Scharmbeck, Hambergen, Basdahl und Oerel).
Von Rotenburg (Wümme) folgen Sie der B 71 (über Zeven und Selsingen).
Anreise mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln:
Aus Richtung Cuxhaven und Bremerhaven fährt die Elbe-Weser-Bahn (EVB) nach Bremervörde. Aus Richtung Hamburg nehmen Sie die S-Bahn (S 5) von Hamburg Hbf nach Buxtehude. Dort steigen Sie in die EVB nach Bremervörde um. Nähere Infos zu den Bahnverbindungen erhalten Sie auf www.bahn.de
Ab Bremen oder Stade können Sie von Mai bis Oktober samstags und feiertags den historischen Moorexpress nehmen, der gemächlich über die Dörfer fährt. Hierzu muss im Vorfeld ein Ticket gebucht werden. Nähere Infos zu der historischen Kleinbahn erhalten Sie auf www.moorexpress.de
Ab dem Bremervörder Bahnhof sind es ca. 10 Minuten Fußweg zum Bachmann-Museum. Entweder über die Bremer Straße und die Alte Straße bis zur Amtsallee 8. Oder Sie nehmen den idyllischen Fuß- und Radweg, der direkt neben den Schienen beim alten Bahnwärterhäuschen beginnt und bis zum Bachmann-Museum führt (ca. 12 Minuten).
Außerdem gibt es zahlreiche Busverbindungen die nach Bremervörde führen:
- Haltestelle Bahnhof: Linien 640, 800, 811, 812, 817, 846, 847, 848 (danach ca. 10 Minuten Fußweg zum Museum, s. o.)
- Haltestelle Hafen: Linien 800, 814, 815 (danach ca. 6 Minuten Fußweg durch Burgbergpark am Kreishaus vorbei zum Museum)
