Eight stages full of highlights

From coast to culture

Every stage of the Weser Cycle Route offers unique experiences and stunning scenic highlights, making this tour an unforgettable cycling adventure.

1. From Hann. Münden to Höxter – The journey begins in the Weser Uplands

This is where the Werra and Fulda rivers merge to form the Weser river – and where your adventure begins. The route leads through the idyllic valleys of the Weser Uplands, past half-timbered houses and dense forests. Hann. Münden welcomes you with its charming historic centre before the path continues through gentle hills and striking river landscapes towards Bad Karlshafen.

As you head north, the picturesque Corvey Abbey – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – appears on the horizon. This stage is shaped by castles and historic towns that tell the story of the region. The destination is Höxter, a town full of medieval charm.

2. From Höxter to Hamelin – The legendary Weser Uplands

This stretch takes you deep into the legendary Weser Uplands, winding along the gentle curves of the river. In Bodenwerder, the hometown of the famous Baron von Münchhausen, you’ll be immersed in the Weser region’s mystical and whimsical folklore – the perfect blend of nature and storytelling.

The route then meanders through forests and fields until you reach the fairy tale town of Hamelin, world-renowned for the tale of the Pied Piper. Here, you’ll find beautiful half-timbered buildings and a town steeped in culture and legend.

6. From Verden to Bremen – Nature and urban flair

The landscape now becomes flatter and the maritime influence more noticeable. The route leads through moorlands, wetlands and tucked-away villages, before arriving in the Hanseatic City of Bremen. In the historical town centre, cyclists can look forward to seeing the famous Town Hall and the statue of the Bremen Town Musicians.

7. From Bremen to Nordenham – Fresh breezes and a taste of the North Sea

Leaving Bremen’s Weser river promenade behind, you enter the Wesermarsch – one of Europe’s largest contiguous grassland regions. Cycle through expansive marshlands, past windmills and the charming town of Nordenham. The salty sea air provides a foretaste as you approach the North Sea. In Bremerhaven, maritime attractions and sweeping harbour views provide a memorable finale.

8. From Bremerhaven to Cuxhaven – The path to the coast

The final stage of the Weser Cycle Route brings the sea into sight, taking you through the expansive, coastal region of Cuxland. With its dykes, marshes and the Wadden Sea, the landscape is truly maritime. Coastal towns like Wremen and Dorum-Neufeld invite you to pause, with sights such as the Obereversand lighthouse along the way. In Cuxhaven, you’ll find the Kugelbake – a historic sea marker and symbol of the city – marking the boundary between the Elbe river and the North Sea. With its flat, well-maintained paths and fresh sea breeze, this stage is the perfect conclusion to your journey.
