On the great Rundlingsweg you are on the trail of the old Wends! Visit the half-timbered town of Lüchow, the most beautiful Rundlings of Wendland, and experience history up close!

Wendland is known for its numerous Rundlinge, which bear mysterious names such as Jabel, Satemin, Meuchefitz, or Jeetzel. Rundlinge are villages where people have built their houses in a circular arrangement. Only one path leads in and out. Each village has its own history and a central village square where people like to meet and chat. On the Rundling route you will discover beautiful old half-timbered houses, each unique and lovingly restored. They make up the charm of the Rundling villages – and of course the people who live there. The origin of this village form is still mysterious; however, it is certain that the Wends lived in the Rundling villages from the 12th century onward. At the Rundlingsmuseum Wendland in Lübeln, the history of the Rundlinge and the life and work of the people about 200 years ago come alive and are made tangible. The half-timbered houses of Lüchow also offer a harmonious backdrop that invites visitors to linger.

Directions

The Rundling route starts at the Rundlingsmuseum in Lübeln. From there you set off to Küsten and continue through the small village of Schwiepke to Jabel. The entire village of Jabel is a protected monument, and here the Rundlingsweg crosses the Wendlandquerweg, a long-distance hiking trail from Clenze to Schnackenburg. The next village, Satemin, is the largest Rundling village in Wendland, where many gable inscriptions on the houses recall the great fire of 1850. Passing the Satemin cemetery and a brickyard, the route continues to Güstritz. Shortly before the village, the path turns left and leads you into the Rundling village of Klennow and from there over the Jeetzel river. After the bridge, you turn left again until the next bridge, which takes you to the village of Jeetzel. At the church, turn right and follow the country road towards Lüchow, where the mighty Amtsturm can be seen from afar. At the village entrance, turn left and follow Dannenberger Straße through open fields back to Lübeln.
