Finds of burial mounds prove that the settlement of Hemeln and its surroundings began around 1600 BC. The village of "Hemlion" was first mentioned in writing in 834. Thanks to its location on the Weser ford and the historic ridgeways, Hemeln was of supra-local importance. Enjoy the wonderful views of the Weser valley on the circular trails around Hemeln! The path back to the starting point leads over the "Hünenburg" refuge castle, of which only a moat remains today. This is where people used to retreat when predatory hordes approached.
