Discover the diversity of the moor at Steinhuder Meer over 45 kilometers
Attention!
Due to the demolition of the bridge over the B6, the moor route is unfortunately not passable in this area!

From the train station in Neustadt a. Rbge, the route heads towards Poggenhagen. In the village district of Moordorf, you can still experience the settlement and building culture influenced by the moor. Names such as "Am Schiffgraben" still point to the former life of the people of Moordorf.
The Moor Route continues past the Wunstorf air base, along a small wood and the Wunstorf Moor to the Steinhuder Meer circular route. Follow this in the direction of Mardorf. You soon come to a rest area, from where a footpath leads to an observation tower in the "Ostufer Steinhuder Meer" nature reserve. It is located in the middle of a broad siltation zone, where the marshland merges into a nutrient-poor swamp, which in turn is adjoined by a reed belt rich in bays. From here you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Steinhuder Meer and the moorland landscape.
After about one kilometer you reach Mardorf with its moor huts. On the Mardorf riverside path, four wooden footbridges branch off from the route at longer intervals, leading towards the water - ideal for a break with a view and information about the history of the formation of the large inland waterway, the island of Wilhelmstein, the nature reserves and the flora and fauna. The trail continues to the center of Mardorf. There, at Aloys-Bunge-Platz, you will find the "Haus des Gastes" with the tourist information office in a beautiful half-timbered house. You should also take some time to visit Schneeren. The village has a charming, historically grown town center, which is characterized by half-timbered buildings. The roofs, uniformly covered with red hollow clay tiles, and old, large-crowned trees create a homogeneous townscape. You leave Schneeren via the "Hinter der Kirche-Hühnerbusch" road. The route continues through fields and forests. The cycle path along the B6 takes you back to Neustadt a. Rbge.
