The Lune is a tributary of the Unterweser, a small meadow river that is about 43 km long from its source to its mouth in the Weser.
The source area is located southwest of Bremervörde between Basdahl and Hipstedt. The Lune flows past Beverstedt and Nesse to the Lunesiel south of the fishing harbor of Bremerhaven. In the 17th century, the small river was a main transport route for the region and navigable up to Deelbrügge.
The Lune's lowland area is characterized by a landscape of meadows and pastures, riparian vegetation, and swamp forests. It is home to many animal species, including endangered species such as the otter.
