The Geeste springs near Hipstedt, ten kilometers west of Bremervörde. As a small Geest stream, it flows northwest past Altluneberg and Bramel before it flows after about 40 km as the last tributary of the Weser into the Lower Weser as a wide marsh waterbody.
The navigable length of the Geeste is about 25 kilometers. This section is also the beginning or the end of the Elbe-Weser shipping route.
The lowlands of the Geeste are shaped by a landscape of meadows and pastures, riverbank vegetation, and swamp, oak, and beech forests. It buzzes, hums, and rustles on your route because the Geeste is a habitat for many animal and plant species. Endangered species, such as the otter, have also become native here again.
