Originating in the Lüneburg Heath, the Wümme runs for around 118 km through the districts of Rotenburg (Wümme) and Verden towards Bremen. From Lilienthal, the Wümme meanders with its many bends through the pastures of St. Jürgensland and the nature reserve in the Bremen Blockland. The ebb and flow of the tide can be felt as far as Bremen-Borgfeld. As paddling against the tidal current is only possible to a limited extent, you should check the tide times before setting off. At Ritterhude, the Wümme and Hamme merge to form the Lesum until it flows into the Weser in Bremen.
For a leisurely rest, there are restaurants close to the banks, Zur Schleuse, Wümmeblick and Zur Nordseite.

It is forbidden to drive into reed beds, riparian woodland and other overgrown shoreline areas as well as water areas with reed beds and floating leaf zones, e.g. pond and water lilies. These are not only home to endangered plant species, but also breeding and rearing grounds for many animal species. Please observe the rules for nature-friendly water hiking, the rules for navigating the Hamme and the water hiking signs.
