What does the garden of a renowned garden book author actually look like? The six-hectare park of Schloss Ippenburg provides enchanting, but also surprising answers. For Viktoria von dem Bussche left parts of the grounds around the neo-Gothic family seat to herself. Thus a species-rich wilderness was created, which forms a fascinating contrast to the formal medicinal herb and kitchen gardens and the rosarium.
Between the beginning of May and mid-August, the baroness opens her gardens on Sundays and public holidays for visitors, who experience a green and colourful blossoming miracle here. Because the enthusiastic gardener is always implementing new ideas. For example, the accompanying planting of her roses changes from year to year. Different varieties of sage and perennials are usually included, as well as dahlias and various grasses, so that the picture of the grounds changes not only from year to year, but even weekly.
But the Ippenburg park is best known for its kitchen garden, which is considered the largest and most species-rich of its kind in Germany. The ingredients for some of the dishes on the menu at the Schlosscafé come from the park's own cultivation. And all those who have provided for themselves in the Cittaslow community of Bad Essen will find wonderful picnic spots here.
Look forward to:
