Hünnefeld was first mentioned in a document in 1146. The three-winged, two-storey complex was built between 1600 and 1614 (southern side wing in 1658) and still shows the simple structure of the late Renaissance today. The pigeon tower was built in 1710 following the French model. The entire complex is surrounded by two moats. Hünnefeld is still privately owned today. In the north wing, a museum shows the family history, which can be visited as part of a group tour. The Café Alte Rentei with Bed & Breakfast is located within the charming castle grounds of Hünnefeld with a direct view of the castle and the English landscape park.
