Naturpark Südheide

The Südheide Nature Park is a paradise for nature lovers and the ideal place for hours of relaxing hikes and bike rides. It features vast forests, heathlands, and marshes. Rare animals such as cranes, otters, and white-tailed eagles find peace here. The Lutter, a stream of high ecological value, is home to over 160 endangered plant and animal species, including the last intact populations of freshwater pearl mussels in Central Europe.
The region attracts many visitors, especially in August, when the heath is in full bloom. The largest contiguous areas of heathland can be found around Oberohe along the unique Kieselgur circular hiking trail and in the Misselhorner Heath near Hermannsburg.
