Mighty walls protect historical, valuable and curious things

The Canossine monastery in neighboring Heeslingen was moved to Zeven in 1141 and became a Benedictine convent. Today, the monastery complex with the St. Viti church is the focal point and landmark of Zeven. The Zeven Convent Museum has many interesting details about the complex for visitors to discover. Between the thick walls of boulders, for example, you will find 17th century wall paintings, a 500-year-old coin treasure and the original Art Deco porcelain, which was only produced in Zeven for 5 years in the 1920s. You can also immerse yourself in the history of the monastery.

Insider tip
The Gauss Room in the "House of Crafts". In 1824/25, the mathematician and astronomer Gauss lived in the former post office for around 6 weeks. The small exhibition in the gabled room documents his land survey and his work in Zeven.
