Gifhorner Heide - heathland in Gifhorn-Winkel
The approximately 32-hectare Gifhorner Heide nature reserve is located to the west in the Winkel district of the town of Gifhorn in the Upper Aller Lowlands natural area and comprises a section of the Allerurstromtal valley.

Its surface shape is characterized by dune ranges. The dune fields are characterized by the alternation of dry dune tops and wet, marshy dune valleys.

The central part of the area is occupied by heathland, while pine forest has predominantly developed on the edges. Broom heaths, degenerated moorland areas with pipe grass and moor heath as well as the geological conditions give this habitat, which is rare in northern Germany, its special beauty.

The Gifhorn Heath nature reserve is an important refuge for fauna and flora and is part of the European Natura 2000 protected area system.

The Gifhorn Heath can be reached via the Kellerberg road, which leads into Winkeler Weg. There is a parking area right at the entrance to the Gifhorn Heath.

If you wish, you can also get to know the Gifhorn Heath on a guided tour: The two-hour, guided walk "Hermann Löns and the Heath" is about, among other things, how the heath was created and how it is used and cared for.
