Lichtenberg Castle is one of the most important castles of its kind since the time of Henry the Lion. Since its destruction, only the remains can be seen.

Located on a steep hilltop in the Lichtenberge mountains, the castle served the great Brunswick Duke of Guelphs to secure his power base against his neighbors in the episcopal city of Hildesheim and imperial Goslar.

The Lichtenberg Castle Association offers a public guided tour of the castle grounds on the first Sunday of every month from April to October.

A permanent exhibition on the castle's history and archaeological finds has been set up in the rebuilt keep. The premises are also used as a branch of the registry office.

Further information can be found in the Lower Saxony Monument Atlas: https://denkmalatlas.niedersachsen.de/viewer/metadata/31191753/2/-/
