Einbeck beer barrel path - Barrel 8: Of devastating fires and new brewing energy
Welcome to the Einbeck Beer Trail. We’re glad you’re setting out to discover our delicious beer! Follow the “Fass-Spur” through Einbeck!
Information about Keg 8:
You’ve now reached the end of the Beer Trail at Neustädter Kirchplatz. This is where our beer heart beats today: at the Einbecker Brauhaus.
But let’s take a look back: For a long time, citizens with brewing rights brewed all the beer for their own consumption and for export right in their homes. After the Thirty Years’ War, they began to join forces: they built the first communal brewery right here on this square. Two more followed later. In 1794, all three communal breweries were consolidated into a single building, which was destroyed by a major fire in 1826. But was that a reason to give up brewing beer? The people of Einbeck had no intention of doing so! Until a new brewhouse was built (1846), they simply continued brewing in the preserved cellar.
In 1843–44, a large portion of the brewers transferred their brewing rights to the city, and the municipal steam-powered brewery was founded. Starting in 1873, the private brewery “Domeier & Boden” operated alongside it for nearly 50 years. In 1922, the Hildesheim Stock Brewery acquired both breweries. In 1967, the Einbecker Brauhaus Aktiengesellschaft was established. Today, the Einbecker Brauhaus is an internationally active company that has remained true to its roots. Its product range includes more than 14 different types of beer and beer-based mixed drinks.
