Naturpark Harz
The Harz Mountains offer a wealth of attractions: discover gentle hills in the foothills, deeply carved valleys, karst rocks and reservoirs. You will soon discover that these impressive landscapes are home to many different animals and plants. No wonder the Harz Nature Park is one of the most biodiverse regions in Germany. Fire salamanders, lynx and dormice live close together here. Rare bat species hibernate in mines and caves. Black storks, red deer and wildcats travel many kilometers in search of food. They need extensive forest landscapes such as those offered by the nature park. It was founded 60 years ago in Lower Saxony to make this unique landscape accessible to people and protect it at the same time. Today it is also part of the UNESCO Global Geopark Harz - Braunschweiger Land - Ostfalen. Traces of the earth's history and mining are sometimes more, sometimes less hidden along the way. Let yourself be surprised by the unique history and enchanted by the beauty of nature on your journey of discovery through the Harz Mountains!
