The 280-kilometre circular route leads through six stages through the districts of Friesland, Ammerland and Wittmund, as well as through the independent city of Wilhelmshaven.

The flat landscape with its many scenic views is the ideal setting for a varied and relaxed vacation on the coast and inland.

The 280-kilometre route starts and ends in Wilhelmshaven, the naval and port city on the Jade Bay. The 6 stages with lengths between 30 and 60 km all have their own charm. Nature lovers will enjoy the diversity of the Frisian landscape, which is constantly changing from marshes, geest and moorland to the beaches on the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site. Historic buildings such as churches, mills and castles delight culturally interested cyclists and invite them to take a break along the tour. The Tour de Fries also offers plenty of culinary delights. The legendary rhubarb pie in Dangast is just as much a must as a freshly tapped Jever Pils. And fresh fish is of course also at the top of the menus in the region.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

Stage 1: Wilhelmshaven - Varel (approx. 55km)

The romantic moated castle of Gödens and the small village of Neustadtgödens are beautiful photo opportunities and invite you to take a short break. Zetel in the Friesische Wehde is the perfect place for nature lovers with its marshland, geest and moorland landscape. In the artists' village of Dangast, small galleries invite you to browse. The delicious rhubarb pie in the old Kurhaus is definitely not to be missed.

Stage 2: Varel - Bockhorn (approx. 50km)

A visit to the Linswege Rhododendron Park is particularly worthwhile during the flowering season. In Bockhorn, the typical Frisian St. Cosmas and Damian Church, which was built from boulders around 1200 and houses an organ by the famous organ builder Christian Vater from 1720, is well worth a visit.

3rd stage: Bockhorn - Friedeburg (approx. 45km)

It's off into a primeval forest! The route leads through the Neuenburger Urwald, an almost 50-hectare nature reserve in the Friesische Wehde. Flower and plant lovers should plan a little more time in the flower town of Wiesmoor. Original photo motif in Friedeburg: the town signs of Friedeburg's districts of Russia and America!

Stage 4 Friedeburg - Carolinensiel (approx. 41 km)
From Friedeburg, the tour heads back towards the Ems-Jade Canal. After crossing the watermill bridge, the route leads through the typical hedgerow landscape towards Reepsholt with St. Mauritius Church, to Leerhafe and through the East Frisian town of Wittmund. The Hands of Fame can be found in the town center of Wittmund. Following the example of Hollywood, numerous handprints of celebrities can be found here. If you have a little time on your hands, you should register for the East Frisian Abitur at the tourist information office. Only in Wittmund can guests prove themselves in typical East Frisian skills and obtain a high school diploma. The stage continues from the town of Wittmund through the villages of Rosental and Altfunnixsiel to the River Harle. Following this, the "Tour de Fries" reaches Carolinensiel.

5th stage Carolinensiel - Jever (approx. 49 km)
From Carolinensiel, the route leads to Harlesiel directly on the North Sea. Parallel to the North Sea and through Wangerland, this stage takes you through the tranquil coastal resort of Minsen-Förrien. From there, the route leads back to the North Sea coast and towards Horumersiel-Schillig. In Schillig, the wide sandy beach with its dunes, the passing cutters, sailing and container ships and the kite shore offer plenty to see. Horumersiel, on the other hand, has a charming town center and a beach with extensive green spaces. In Horumersiel, you can enjoy the sea even without sand in your clothes. The "Tour de Fries" leads past the outer harbor and along the Wangertief and the North Sea to the North Sea resort of Hooksiel. Here it is also worth making a detour to the Hooksiel outer harbor and the Hooksieler Binnentief. The historic town center with its listed "Old Harbor" invites you to make a stopover. The "Tour de Fries" leads from Hooksiel through meadows and fields to Jever. The Frisian town is best known for its beer of the same name. In addition to the brewery, Jever also has a lot to offer culturally. Take a stroll through the picturesque old town, past numerous fountains and Jever Castle with its castle park to experience Frisian serenity.

Stage 6: Jever - Wilhelmshaven (approx. 35km)

The Accumer Mühle is a beautiful photo opportunity. On weekends from April to September, the mill is in operation on baking days. Ideal destination for a break with freshly baked cake! In Wilhelmshaven, you can visit the museums on the Maritime Mile or set sail on a harbor cruise. The city's landmark is the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge, which connects the southern beach with the southern part of the city.
