Detailed route:
The 69 km long circular tour takes us into nature and starts in the picturesque town of Bremervörde, which is characterized by its location on the Oste and the Vörder See with its extraordinary variety of landscapes.
From the train station, we take a short feeder to the route. First, we head west on well-maintained paths until we reach the first stop in the idyllic village of Bevern after 9 km. Bevern is known for its Historische Ziegelei Pape, an impressive example of industrial architecture where the "fire treasure" in the form of bricks was once mined.
Our tour continues through charming field and meadow landscapes to the small village of Sandbostel, where we cross the Oste for the second time and pass through the district of Immenhain. Here you will find the Memorial of the Sandbostel camp. In 1939, the Wehrmacht set up the Stalag XB prisoner of war camp, which held more than 300,000 prisoners of war, civilian and military internees from over 35 countries by the end of the war. In April 1945, 9,500 prisoners from the Neuengamme concentration camp were added. Today, 23 buildings still exist and a modern permanent exhibition informs visitors about the dark history of the camp and the Second World War.
Now we drive through the agricultural areas of the former Devil's Moor, past the northern foothills of the Huvenhoopsmoor nature reserve. A little later, we pass the Historischer Moorhof in Augustendorf, a typical farmstead of the first moorland settlers, and cycle a short distance along the Oste-Hamme Canal, which was once used to transport peat and goods to Bremen. From there, the route passes through the residential and wooded area of Gnarrenburg - a village that became world-famous for the invention of the medical "drop counter" and is located in the center of the former Devil's Moor. If you need a break, you should take a short 1 km detour via Hermann-Lambrecht-Straße to the center of Gnarrenburg, where there are several places to stop for refreshments.
In the next section of the route, we cycle through the villages of Osterwede, Oese, Barchel and Hipstedt. In between lies a cultivated moorland landscape with pastures and fields, which creates a very special atmosphere. From Hipstedt, the route first passes through the dense Hinzel forest and continues through the gently rolling landscape to Ebersdorf and Alfstedt, the northernmost point of the tour.
On the last 12 km of the "Nordschleife", we pass a slightly hilly Geest landscape and the Höhne forest before returning to Bremervörde. Here, cozy cafés and restaurants invite you to take a break and reflect on the ride. The nature and adventure park at Vörder See with its world of the senses is the perfect place for a relaxing end to a day that appeals to all the senses
