The tour starts at the St. Liborius Church in Bremervörde and initially takes you through a slightly hilly Geest landscape with vast agricultural areas. You pass small villages such as Oerel, Barchel and Oese with their idyllic churches and beautifully landscaped village squares.
Behind Oese, you first cycle along the Franzhorn forest edge and finally reach the Oste-Hamme Canal. It is a structure that was created in the course of the drainage and settlement of the Teufelsmoor. The former moorland farmers used this canal to ship the removed and dried black peat to Bremen, which was ideal for use as fuel peat. From now on, the townscape and landscape changed. The Geest villages are replaced by so-called Findorff settlements, kilometers of moorland villages along roads and canals.
Explore the typical moorland settlement of Augustendorf with the Historischer Moorhof and discover the Huvenhoopsmoor on the Moor Experience Trail, which leads directly to a viewing platform from which you have a sweeping view of Lake Huvenhoop. Thousands of cranes and other migratory birds rest here in spring and fall. A beautiful spot that is well worth a long break.
The next section of the route gradually leads out of the moor into the Ostetal and follows the small natural river to Bremervörde. The Sandbostel camp memorial is located right between these two natural areas. From 1939 to 1945, around 300,000 prisoners of war and internees were imprisoned in the Stalag XB prisoner of war camp. At the end of the war, 9,500 concentration camp prisoners were added. Today, an exhibition and 23 buildings can be visited. Via Sandbostel and Minstedt, past the drinking water nature trail and Tempelberg, through the small Wäldchen Vorwerk, you finally arrive back in Bremervörde, where the Bachmann Museum is a cultural highlight, the nature and adventure park on Lake Vörder invites you to linger and the town center with its restaurants and cafés invites you to stop for a bite to eat.
The route passes through the following towns:
Bremervörde - Glinde - Oerel - Barchel - Oese - Osterwede - Brillit - Friedrichsdorf - Augustendorf - Heinrichsdorf - Sandbostel - Minstedt - Bremervörde
