The hike begins at the northern exit of Dassel and leads along Rothenberg into the dense forest. Over small paths it goes to the ridge trail and the Hunnesrück castle ruins. Here, almost the highest point of the hike is reached. Now it goes through natural mixed forests up to the ridge of the Amtsberge. Then the trail leads for a while along the ridge trail until it changes into a gravel path that leads back down the mountain. The dense forests open again and offer wide views into the meadow valleys.
It continues in the direction of Hunnesrück. Past the historic water mill and the stallion breeding stud Hunnesrück, the last section leads through a short stretch of dark beech forest. Anyone wanting to make a detour can hike through Hunnesrück to Erichburg with the castle complex of the same name.
Past horse pastures it goes back to the starting point in Dassel.
