The Bodenstein cliffs, which stretch for about 4 km between the Jägerhaus and Bodenstein, are the destination of this varied and sometimes challenging tour.

The sandstone Bodenstein cliffs have been carved into their current shape by weathering processes and have a striking appearance. Right at the start of the hike, the Hubertus Chapel at the Jägerhaus is a special sight.

This tour is a circular route, so the tour can alternatively be started and ended at any other point along the described route.

Directions

The start and end point of this tour is at the Jägerhaus parking lot in Hainberg. This is also where you will find stamp station 12 "Jägerhaus" from the Nördliches Harzvorland tourism association.

Since there are steep climbs on the cliffs, some of which are on loose ground, sturdy footwear is required.

From the starting point, the hike leads to the Jägerhaus in Hainberg. This historic excursion restaurant has been around since the early 19th century.

In the immediate vicinity of the Jägerhaus is the Hubertus Chapel, which was built in 1733 by Johann Friedrich Anton Freiherr von Bocholtz. According to legend, Hubertus was converted here. God appeared to him as a stag with a cross in its antlers.

The hike then follows a narrow path that winds south above the Hubertus Chapel to the refuge at Potsdamer Platz.

Cross the L498 and follow a paved forest path for the next approx. 1.3 km to the Steinberghütte, which was built by the Harzklub Lutter in 1975.

The hiking trail runs west past the Steinberghütte. Shortly afterwards, a narrow path to the left of the path leads steeply uphill to Geroldsklippe (284 m).

A similarly challenging downhill section then follows the path in a southerly direction to the Forsthof. Walk around the Forsthof on the western side and then "tackle" the ascent to the Sofaklippe (259 m)

The last few meters of altitude are almost climbed before reaching the "Sofa", where you can take a break after the most strenuous part of the hike.

The tour leads a little further over the cliff, from where it begins the path into the valley about 300 m later in an easterly direction.

The valley trail is a well-surfaced forest path that leads north to the Jägerhaus. The last section of the valley path follows a narrow path that ends at the L498.

The last 700 m of the hike must be covered on the asphalt road because the actual hiking trail in the forest, east of the road, is no longer passable.
