Wattenmeer Besucherzentrum Wilhelmshaven
At the UNESCO World Heritage Wadden Sea Visitor Center in Wilhelmshaven, families, children and nature enthusiasts of all ages can experience the fascinating world of whales, an exciting insight into the habitat of the animals and plants of the Wadden Sea and much more on three levels. Under the motto "Whales, Wadden Sea and Mee(h)r", the visitor center offers an experience for all the senses in the completely renovated exhibition. An interactive hands-on world provides comprehensive insights into this impressive natural landscape with its diverse flora and fauna. The exhibition covers an area of over 2,000 square meters and inspires visitors with interactive media, impressive photos and film footage, innovative technologies, multimedia presentations as well as microscope, research, experience and audio stations.
Whoever (digitally) dives into the depths of the sea learns amazing things about the life of whales, including the porpoise, which is native to the North Sea. The absolute highlight is a complete sperm whale skeleton with organs. At an interactive station, visitors can accompany this gentle giant on its dangerous journey through the sea.
The visitor center also offers a wide range of interactive stations in all exhibition areas: For example, it explains in an understandable way how ebb and flow work, how seals and fish live in the Wadden Sea, new animal and plant species migrate or how migratory birds find their routes without a satnav. An entertaining quiz allows visitors to test their knowledge of the bird life of the Wadden Sea.
The Wadden Sea Visitor Center is an ideal place to explore and be amazed. At the end of the visit, the cafeteria invites you to linger with a view of the impressive whale skeleton.
