In the Wadden Sea Visitor Center on Wilhelmshaven's south beach, the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site is presented as a unique habitat on 3 floors and an area of more than 2000 m² - both in the water, on land and in the air. Experience and discover this fascinating world through interactive media, large-format photos, films and audio stations in our completely renovated exhibition.
Start your discovery tour with a virtual dive into the mysterious depths of the sea. Under our sperm whale skeleton, you will enter the world of whales, the giants of the oceans. We will then introduce you to the other marine mammals of the North Sea, the harbor seals and grey seals, but above all to the harbor porpoise, which is native to the area.
Immediately afterwards, you will go on an exciting excursion through the various habitats of the Wadden Sea. On a walk through the faithfully recreated salt marshes, you can discover the wealth of species native to the area. You will learn how ebb and flow work, but also what dangers these forces of nature can pose. You will get to know animal and plant survival artists that have adapted perfectly to the most extreme conditions and you can take a close look at the beauty of our smallest mudflat dwellers under the microscope. Our motto is: discover, research, play, marvel!
At the end of your excursion into "a world of wonders", you will get to know the realm of the birds of the Wadden Sea and the importance of this unique habitat for millions of migratory birds "at lofty heights". Follow the paths of the long-distance flyers and find out the secret of their orientation by day and night. Immediately afterwards, you can test your newly acquired knowledge in the popular "1,2 or 3 game".
After your exciting Wadden Sea journey, our cafeteria invites you to linger, of course with a view of the sperm whale. Current information and dates can be found at: www.wattenmeer-besucherzentrum.de
