Alfeld is one of the birthplaces of the Bauhaus style. With their shared vision, Carl Benscheidt, the company founder, and the later Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius revolutionized industrial architecture in 1911 and created the Fagus factory in Alfeld in the Leinebergland region, a shoe last factory with a completely unusual appearance that deviated from the traditional.
Shaped by light, air and clarity, the first work of architect Walter Gropius puts people at the center. To this day, the central corporate philosophy of company founder Carl Benscheidt "Our wealth is not our machines, nor a bank account, but the knowledge, skills and commitment of our employees," is at the heart of the family business, Fagus-GreCon Greten GmbH & Co. KG. The Fagus factory has been actively producing for over 100 years. Today, the fire protection and exhibition technology divisions complement the shoe last production.
Exciting factory tours invite you to take a look behind the scenes of the world heritage site. A video guide allows visitors to discover the Fagus factory individually. The Fagus-Gropius exhibition in the former warehouse provides information on 3,000 square meters with exciting experience and activity stations about the company's history, the Bauhaus and shoe fashion of the last 100 years, among other things. The multimedia and interactive UNESCO visitor center invites visitors on a journey to other national and international world heritage sites.Special exhibitions in the Fagus Gallery and cultural events in the special ambience of the World Heritage Factory round off the experience and offer pure culture between architecture and production.The Fagus-Gropius-Café in the former machine house invites you to take a culinary break.
Since July 2024, the UNESCO World Heritage Site Fagus Factory has also been a member of the regional brand "Leinebergland pur".

Openings
Public guided tours take place all year round on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 13:00. From April to October there is an additional public tour on Sundays at 11:00 am. Tickets are available in the online store.

Directions & Parking facilities
Aus Richtung Hannover:
Aus Norden kommend verlassen Sie die A7 an der Abfahrt 59 (B443/Laatzen) und fädeln Sie sich in Richtung Pattensen/Sarstedt ein. Fahren Sie nach ca. 9 km auf die B3 in Richtung Elze/Alfeld (Leine). Fahren Sie ca. 35 km auf der B3 in südlicher Richtung. Verlassen Sie die B3 an der Abfahrt Alfeld/Freden und fahren Sie anschließend ca. 400 m die Hannoversche Straße entlang bis zum Fagus-Werk.
Aus Richtung Göttingen:
Aus Süden kommend verlassen Sie die A7 an der Ausfahrt 69 (Northeim-Nord) auf die B3 in Richtung Hameln/Einbeck/Alfeld (L.). Fahren Sie ca. 37 km auf der B3 in nördlicher Richtung. Verlassen Sie die B3 in Alfeld (Leine). Fahren Sie anschließend über die Göttinger Straße und Hannoversche Straße bis zum Fagus-Werk.

Kostenfreie PKW und Busparkplätze sind direkt auf dem Gelände des Fagus-Werkes verfügbar.
Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel
Anreise mit der Bahn bis Alfeld (Leine).
Alfeld (Leine) liegt verkehrsgünstig an der Nord-Süd-Hauptstrecke der Bahn. Die Züge der Deutschen Bahn AG und der Metronom Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH ermöglichen eine stündliche An- und Abreise nach und von Alfeld (Leine).
Das Fagus-Werk ist vom Bahnhof aus fußläufig in ca. 10 Min. bzw. 550 m über die Hannoversche Straße sowie mit den Stadtbuslinien 601 und 602 zu erreichen.
