The "Harz Dolomites", located between Herzberg and Bad Lauterberg, with the legendary Einhorn Cave have a special status as an important nature experience in a very small area.
The myth of the unicorn has always fascinated people. The bones of the "Unicornu fossile", the buried unicorn, ground into powder, were sought after as medicine throughout Europe for centuries. Even famous researchers such as Goethe and Leibniz went in search of it. And even today, especially younger visitors to the cave still frequently ask about the unicorn. Actually, all the bones in the cave come from long extinct ice age animals like cave bears and cave lions. For many thousands of years, the Neanderthals were the ones who lived in the cave.
After a 50-minute cave tour, guests can visit a small cave museum and continue their own exploration of the Harz Dolomites on three nature trails around the cave. Approximately 60 information, adventure and play stations provide amazing insights into the nature and geology of this landscape.
The cave is also accessible for wheelchair users.
