Since March 2020, the Spökenkieker has been located at Töpinger Straße 2 opposite the St. Antonius Church in the heart of Bispingen. In addition to a permanent exhibition about the municipality of Bispingen, the Spökenkieker also offers space for changing cultural events and is a meeting point and place of information.

Bispingen can look back on centuries of history. The "ole Kerk" (old church) dates back to the 14th century. The people who lived here shaped their surroundings: the Lüneburg Heath is a cultural landscape - shaped by people. Modernization in the 19th century brought the characteristic heathland economy to a limit. The inhabitants of the heath could no longer feed themselves from the depleted soil. Many emigrated to America. Lonely, deserted and of austere beauty, the heath became a destination of longing for romantics and a retreat for city escapees. This is where the history of tourism in the Heath begins.
The permanent exhibition introduces some of the people who lived in Bispingen or came as guests. Their stories show the diversity of the region and tell of constant change. Join us on a search for clues!

What exactly is a Spökenkieker?
"Spökenkieker" is Low German and translates as "ghost watcher" or "ghost seer". Spökenkiekers are said to have the ability to see into the future.
