Oldenburg Palace Gardens
Near the palace, not far from the pedestrian zone, lies the 16-hectare palace garden. With its extensive network of paths, it invites visitors to take a long walk in nature. It was laid out in the style of an English landscape garden in 1814 by order of Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig. Even more than 200 years later, the palace garden has retained much of its original design.
Amidst trees and flowers
A highlight is the rhododendron blossom from late April to early June. The specimens in Oldenburg Castle Garden are now among the oldest rhododendrons in Germany. The original tree population from the time of the duke has also been largely preserved, as have historic buildings such as the tea pavilion and the court gardener's house.
A park with history
Until the 1950s, the palace garden was reserved for the upper classes and could only be entered in Sunday clothes. Today, you meet picnickers, sunbathers and joggers there instead. In addition, themed tours, events and lectures on botany are held regularly.
Pedal boat hire
As a short tour along the palace garden, a pedal boat tour in Oldenburg is suitable for everyone. The pedal boat rental "Bootzeit" at the Schlossgarten is open from April to September.
Outdoor Game for Families
Go on the trail of the dangerous magician Spiegelfink with a magical outdoor game and follow the clues across the Schlossgarten. The booklet accompanying the outdoor game "On the Tracks of the Mirror Finch" is available at the Oldenburg-Info in the Lappan as well as in the online shop Suitable for children from 7 years of age accompanied by an adult.
