Natur- und Geoparkstation Theikenmeer

Nature park

The former barn of the Meyerrenken farm is home to the nature park station's barrier-free exhibition entitled "Nature-Time-Man" and shows the interplay of these three factors over the course of history, from the formation of the Hümmling to the present day. With an interactive offer, the exhibition appeals to different age groups and invites visitors on a journey through the history of the "free Hümmling". For children, there is a children's corner with an interactive quiz, hands-on activities and a live broadcast of the barn owl box on site.

On the associated outdoor area, the information can be experienced on a circular hiking trail, the "Theikenmeerrunde". From a viewing tower and various observation platforms, nature enthusiasts can gain very special views and insights into the Theikenmeer and the importance of the nature reserve.

In addition to the main hiking trail, the "Crane Trail" is an excursion on the Theikenmeer Trail and leads directly to its namesake - the Theikenmeer, one of the oldest nature reserves in the Federal Republic of Germany. As a shorter detour with a length of 2.4 km, it is particularly suitable for families. The starting point is right next to the nature park station and is also the beginning of the "Barrier-free view" to the Bernhard Grzimek Tower.

Furthermore, the maintenance measures of the nature reserve are controlled by the Meyerrenken farm. NABU Werlte/ Sögel has been organizing and implementing the important measures from here since 2003. Nature tours can be booked there or via the Hümmling Nature Park .
