The Leinewelle is a technical facility in the river Leine on the Hohe Ufer in Hanover's old town. With the standing wave, the Leinewelle association has created the first surf spot in northern Germany in a natural river.
Modeled on the Munich Eisbach, the Leinewelle was completed in October 2022 and has been in test operation ever since. The Leinewelle was officially opened on May 1, 2023 with an opening weekend full of activities and events.
Surfing spot for professionals and beginners
Two waves with different heights and levels of difficulty allow both experienced professionals and beginners to surf. Courses can also be booked through the university sports department. Outside of the courses, no surf equipment can be rented on site.
An annual membership in the club ensures 24 free surf spots per year. Individual tickets can be booked beyond this or for those interested on an irregular basis.
