City library and cultural institution in the former Peter Friedrich Ludwigs Hospital

PFL Cultural Center

With its 65-meter-long street frontage, six-part colonnade, and elegantly curved driveway, the PFL Cultural Center on Peterstraße is a real eye-catcher. Until the 1980s, this imposing building housed a hospital, designed around 1800 by its namesake, Peter Friedrich Ludwig.

Cultural Center and Educational Institution

Today, the PFL is one of Oldenburg’s most important cultural centers. The city library, the Department of Culture, the Artohek, and the Umwelthaus are just a few of the many institutions housed here today. The PFL Cultural Center is also very popular for events and seminars. The event wing and seminar rooms can accommodate events with 10 to 300 guests. Readings, concerts, and the annual Oldenburg Children’s and Youth Book Fair (KIBUM), held every November, attract numerous visitors to the historic complex.
