Historisches Werfttor

If you follow Marktstraße from the city center past the Prinz-Adalbert-von-Preußen monument and the shipyard workers' monument, you will walk right up to the imposing historic shipyard gate. The former main gate of the Imperial Dockyard, now the Naval Arsenal, was located here in the Arsenal Harbour on Gökerstraße. The brick building at the beginning of Marktstraße was built at the end of the 19th century and has been preserved to this day. At the time, it was built in the neo-Renaissance style typical of the period. Wilhelmshaven's oldest post box is still clearly visible in the archway. Entitled "Kaiserliche Werft", it is still in daily use today.
