Promenade with restaurants

Just a few minutes' walk from the pedestrian zone, the Old Town Harbour and its promenade are a popular meeting place in Oldenburg. Numerous restaurants and cafés invite you to linger here. The area around the harbour basin can be easily explored during walks along the water and boat trips on the water. The old harbour crane is a reminder of the busy freight traffic of days gone by. A special eye-catcher is also the railway bascule bridge over the Hunte, which is unique in Europe and is a listed building.

Oldenburg harbour

Oldenburg harbour forms the junction between the Hunte and the Küstenkanal. Goods from sea and inland traffic have been loaded here since as early as the 14th century. After the Second World War, operations increased steadily over the decades. Today, with an average annual turnover of 1.1 million tonnes, the Port of Oldenburg is one of the inland ports with the highest turnover in Lower Saxony. An average of 1,000 inland vessels and 60 seagoing vessels call here every year. Since the 1980s, leisure and excursion ships have also been calling here.
