Dommuseum Hildesheim

The Golden Madonna, one of the oldest sculptures of the Middle Ages. The Oswald Reliquary, a donation by the Guelph Duke Henry the Lion. The silver crook from the staff of Abbot Erkanbald of Fulda, the cross of Bishop Bernward. All this and much more is presented to you in the Hildesheim Cathedral Museum. The core of the collection and the museum's most valuable holdings are the works of art from the cathedral treasury, most of which date from the 11th to 13th centuries and are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Magnificent baroque carpets vie here with glittering golden medieval relics, silver chandeliers and magnificent, ancient images of the Mother of God. An approximately nine-metre-high sandstone relief in the rood screen hall offers a fascinating sequence of scenes from the Old and New Testaments. If you want to hear as well as see, no problem: the sacred splendour is occasionally the backdrop for atmospheric events - such as magical musical performances at the "KlangRaum" concert series.
