Wanderung auf dem Rundweg vom Kloster Walkenried durch die Karstlandschaft Südharz

Harz National Park
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, a varied hike around Walkenried invites you to discover nature, history and special landscapes together. The meeting point is at 10.15 am on the monastery forecourt at the entrance to the museum.

The tour leads along the circular route "From Walkenried Monastery through the karst landscape of the southern Harz", first via the Kupferberg and to Ellrich. Along the way, there are exciting historical stops on the program - including the Jewish cemetery and the town church of St. Johannis in Ellrich as well as the memorial site of the former Ellrich-Juliushütte concentration camp. The route then leads through the impressive "Himmelreich" with its unique gypsum karst landscape back to Walkenried.

The hike takes around four hours. Two ascents are planned - to Kupferberg and up to Himmelreich. Sure-footedness, weatherproof clothing and suitable footwear are therefore recommended. Catering is provided from the rucksack. At the end of the walk, there may be an opportunity to visit the museum together.
